Junior Copywriter

The Junior Copywriter will work alongside the Creative Director, wider creative team, Fifth Ring colleagues and clients to create compelling stories that grab attention and drive action.

Accountabilities
  • Devising creative ideas, concepts and copy that not only fits the brief, but is persuasive, engaging, and interesting to read.
  • Your focus will be on developing your craft of copywriting, writing headlines, copy, positioning, value propositions, straplines, and overall concepts that are not just creatively driven but world-class.
  • You will work in the creative team alongside our Senior & Junior Art Directors, supervised by our Creative Director.
  • You will work with the creative team to create copy and copy-driven concepts for campaigns as well as message hierarchies as well as working across all platforms and mediums, from direct mail and ambient to digital, from social to video.
  • You will be able to understand creative briefs, identifying and translating technical details. You will be able to flag any potential issues and questions at an early stage and work to ensure a common understanding is reached.
  • Carrying out research on products, services, topics and target audiences to create stories aligned to all of these.
  • Using stakeholder feedback to make any necessary edits.
  • You will ensure initial campaign concepts are consistently applied to multi-channel touchpoints across multiple assets.
  • You will focus on detail, accuracy, and consistency at every stage, taking pride in your work.
  • Ensuring all copy is brand compliant.
  • You will focus on efficiency and discover ways to automate your workflow, wherever there is an opportunity, including interest in the latest technologies and AI tools
  • You will work with the Traffic Manager to effectively manage your workload.
Knowledge
  • You will be comfortable working across off-line and digital channels
  • You will possess a good understanding of today’s media landscape and channels and be willing to push their boundaries.
  • You will understand the importance of work being ‘on-brand’ and be able to understand and follow corporate guidelines.
Skills
  • Communication skills: As well as working within the creative team, you will work as a true partner with other departments across the business, such as the Account Managers, Reach team, the Brand and Strategy team, and other designers and developers.
  • Time management: You will understand the importance of deadlines and be able to prioritise and manage your workload accordingly (with support from the Traffic Manager).
  • Accuracy and diligence: You will have an eye for detail and accuracy. You will always double-check your work for errors. You will always understand the importance of work being signed off prior to external distribution.
  • You will be confident using Word and PowerPoint. Some experience and understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD) as well as Canva and Figma and all aspects of social graphics workflow automation is desirable. Skills in basic video editing or After Effects will be seen as advantageous.
  • You will be fully social media literate.
Experience
  • You will understand the fundamentals of good, creative copywriting, design, branding and advertising and have experience to show this.
  • Ideally you will have some experience working as part of a creative team (or independently) from an agency environment.
  • Basic experience and understanding of how to deliver comms in the modern omni-channel world is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering campaigns on social media is advantageous.
  • You will be up to speed on the latest development in social media.
  • Experience in the B2B marketing environment is not necessary but would be beneficial.
Personal characteristics
  • Diligent, accurate and with good self-discipline, you are a copywriter with limited experience but a willingness to learn; keen to be involved and open to honing new skills as you evolve.
  • You will be able to quickly and effectively follow guidance from the Creative Director to ensure fully integrated, consistent, and impactful campaigns.
  • You will be a real team player and a true collaborator who can understand and work effectively with other teams across the agency and across different global locations as required.
  • You will also be a self-starter, able to generate concepts on your own.
  • You will aim to create effective, professional campaigns with a focus on accuracy.
  • You will always be keen to learn and improve, and be willing to accept constructive criticism, understanding that improving the standard of work is the aim.
  • You will be able to think differently, not content on cracking the same projects in the same way every time.
